At the gates

"I read somewhere than when your time is almost over someone will come to get you."
"Oh? Where did you read this?", su acento me desarmó, como cada vez que hablaba.

"I don't know, I read a lot. So, who will come for you?"
"Well, what do you mean? Come for me where?"
"It's like... when your days are coming to an end you start to see someone from your past. You start to notice this person getting closer and closer, letting you know that you should get ready, because you have to go away real soon"
"Aren't we morbid today..."

"It's not morbid, it's romantic, don't you think?"
"Dying?"
"No, smartass. Answer the question"

"Well, I won't tell you."
"Why not?"
"Because! C'est très ridicule!"
"Oh, c'mon! Please? Pretty please?"

"You tell me. You go first. It's your story after all"
"It's not my story, I just read it somewhere and I got curious"
"Yeah, you read a lot, right?"
"Right. Trains and hostels and stuff. That's my life now. Perfect for reading."
"Well, it's still your story, so you go first: who's coming for you?"

"Don't laugh, ok?"
"I promise"
"Well... since I was 16 I've been sure that I was gonna see the first girl I ever loved; that she was going to come for me and take me home. Take us home."
"That's... that's...

"But now I'm not so sure..."
"Oh? Pourquoi?"
"Because right now I'm feeling like it might as well be you."
"Moi?"
"Yeah, you know... coming for me?"

"You're not just saying that to get me to sleep with you, right?", me sonrío.
"No, of course not! Is it working, though?"

"So, what about you?"
"What about me?"
"Who's coming to get you?"
"Are you really gonna make me say it?"
"It's only fair, I think"

"Right"
"So, don't you ever lose that"

"I won't, I promise"
"Breathe, believe?"
"Breathe, believe"
